Harold Ford Advocates Letting Bush and Cheney Off Because "the Constitution doesn't poll very well."
I wish I were kidding. Of course Chairman John Conyers knows how important the Constitution is to people. That's why he wants to publicize Bush and Cheney's violations of it. Yet, at the same time, he imagines nobody gives a damn about defending the Constitution against those abuses. This, I think, involves a crazier mental leap than Ford's sheer ignorance.

Harold Ford
Harold Ford is a Blue Dog Democrat that needs to be dis-invited from the democratic Party. He is more Republican than Democrat. He needs to be ignored at all times even though the news media will always give him voice because he is a handsome devil. He is not the friend of progressive or liberal Democrats.
Blue Dogs
Every d... one of them need to go.
You know after the elections of 2006 Bush invited the blue dogs to a private meeting and we no longer have to guess what the meeting was about.
Loyality to the republican party and their policies.
Uncle Tom
Harold is Uncle Tom incarnated....
Harold Ford
is sounding like the majority of the Democrats and really could you expect much more from the chair of the DLC? His comments are indeed shameful and even unAmerican, but there is no need to apply a derogatory and racist label to him.
I see people do it here as well with Conyers. I have a lot of resentment towards John Conyers. I, myself, have gone head to head with him personally on the issue of impeachment and wanted to just shake him.
But, just because he and Harold Ford happen to be African-American there's no need to pull out a racial epithet to throw at them. Isn't that the kind of thing most progressive thinkers would oppose? Enough with the Uncle Tom comments.
When it comes to the Corporate State
most influence peddlers in Washington are Uncle Toms, regardless of their race. While coarse and somewhat restrictive still, Uncle Tom perfectly describes a person who is willing to compromise within a corrupt system. Sadly, in that regard we are all "guilty" a bit, too.
African Americans use the term, I believe, quite freely.
I'd like the language police to stand down here.
This is a website where "I'm mad as Hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!," is the rallying cry. Offensive language shouldn't be the norm I guess. But we do have bigger fish to fry, don't we?
bullshit
this isn't about "language police." nice try. it's about racism. suddenly because people are called out for using the derogatory and racist phrase "uncle tom" you're going to say most in d.c. are uncle toms regardless of their race? well, i didn't notice anyone calling them that before.
i know what uncle tom describes and it matters not to me whether african ameriacns "use the term, i believe, quite freely," as you claim. we can call harold ford and john conyers and the rest of the dems out for what they're doing without the use of what is generally known by most people to be a divisive and racially inflammatory label and do so much more effectively.
we're all mad as hell and we should remain focused on the real issues and that's why i have little tolerance for divisiveness.
They are not called blue dog democrates anymore..............
The new term is Lieberman Democrates......... Backstabbers was taken.
If elections equal accountability
If elections are accountability, they need to empty all the prisons and put all the inmates up for election so we can hold them accountable.

Let him know how you really feel about the Constitution and accountability for the Bush administration.
UPDATE:
Here's my message:
"The Constitution doesn't poll very well."
Way to go, Mr. Ford.
But I suppose Americans should not be surprised. As evidenced by your stunningly ignorant comments at the Netroots Nation conference, the full frontal Democratic Party assaults on America's collective intelligence are becoming ever more frequent, as the veil continues to fall on your party's spineless enabling of the most corrupt, criminal, impeachable administration this country has ever seen.
Have you considered why the approval rating for the current Congress is at 14 percent (roughly half that of the current occupant of the White House)?
It's because Democrats in Washington continue to ignore the unequivocal will of the people who gave your party a congressional majority in 2006:
Get us out of Iraq and hold the Bush administration accountable for their crimes.
But what has happened instead? Democrats have used every pathetic excuse in the book to continue funding the illegal occupation of Iraq, in spite of revelations such as this, which appeared in a Washington Post story on December 19th, 2007:
"Iraqis of all sectarian and ethnic groups believe that the U.S. military invasion is the primary root of the violent differences among them, and see the departure of 'occupying forces' as the key to national reconciliation, according to focus groups conducted for the U.S. military last month."
You also said:
"I think that accountability was brought in 2006 when [Republicans] lost in the House and the Senate."
A mountain of proven and continually repeated Bush administration lies have led to the deaths of more than four thousand American troops and more than one million innocent Iraqis, and the creation of the fastest growing refugee crisis on the planet in Iraq (nearly five million Iraqi refugees). In addition we have George W. Bush's illegal torture, detention, rendition, and spying on innocent Americans, not to mention Bush's callous evisceration of our Constitution with his illegal signing statements and completely fraudulent "Unitary Executive Theory" - an open effort to concentrate all government power in the Executive Branch.
As if all that weren't more than enough, the entire carefully crafted disaster that is the Bush administration has our country on the brink of complete financial collapse.
And you're of the belief that Republicans losing their congressional majority is sufficient accountability?
You are unquestionably part of the problem in America, Mr. Ford.
Ever so sincerely,
John Perry

Rove, Morbidly OBESE Champion!
Why shouldn't Rove be above the law? He is a champion of the morbidly obese everywhere in the USA!
Didn't you ever wonder who ARE those 8% of the public who always stand THICKLY by him and his policies, no matter what? (even if they infiltrate a peace protest!)
They sure can walk around here with a lot to laugh and crow about, so long as they can look to their champion, who is "sticking it" to anyone who is more athletic by comparison (which includes the entire other 92% of the US, even all the loyal "field hands" stationed overseas.)
Yes, these few ELEPHANTS do have a lot to crow about, because they like "The Way Things Are" just fine -- especially the obviously established principle that FAT CATS like Rove, are really above the law and can thumb their nose at society (their fiefdom)!
History has seen this situation a few brief times before and well remembers the name of Vitellius...!
How the 'mental leap' works:
Re: "Yet, at the same time, he imagines nobody gives a damn about defending the Constitution against those abuses. This, I think, involves a crazier mental leap than Ford's sheer ignorance"
Yes -- this is a mental leap, but I think maybe I can explain understand how the mental leap works...
Do you remember how you felt about the Constitution in 2nd grade? Probably like this: "It's grown-up business". Most of your friends your age probably agreed with you.
As you grew older, fewer of your peers held on to this attitude, but plenty enough of them, even after they had to study it in high school, still considered it "grown-up business". And a few still kept this illusion and didn't worry about it, even after they themselves were grown up.
By recreating the conditions of a 2nd grade classroom as much as possible on the large social scale, it is just barely possible to maintain the illusion that most citizens do not want to know about the "Constitution" and "rights", and instead leave all that to the "grownups", but don't YOU worry about it -- because after all, aren't you really a kid at heart? Then why should you worry your little head about these matters, that are best left to the grownups to decide for you?
This attitude has been carefully cultivated for decades, but the cultivators are now panicked at the prospect of any REVOLUTION - not one of picking up arms, but a revolution of the MIND - that could dispel that illusion on a large scale.
